Say Thank You to Your Children’s Teachers

Posted by Stuck On You on May 26, 2010  |  1 Comment

The end of the school year is approaching quickly and it will be time for your children to say good-bye to their teachers who they’ve been with all year long.

A special way to say thank you and be remembered is a personalized gift that can be used for years to come. Teachers are notorious for having well-organized classrooms, so help them take their organization to the next level with personalized labels!

Teachers can label everything from their desk supplies to remote controls for their smart boards to books that belong in their classroom.

If your child’s teacher is really special to you and likes to cook, perhaps you want to consider a set of Kitchen Labels wrapped up with a cookbook.

Also include handwritten note of thanks for taking special care of your little scholarship.

The Kitchen Labels are also ideal for housewarming or hostess gifts.  Stocking up on them is a surefire way to always have a quick gift on hand for visits to friend’s homes over the summer vacation or when you attend a dinner party. Combine with your favorite gourmet jam, a bottle of wine or a homemade dessert for a unique gift. Each set includes more than 80 peel-and-stick labels. Stuck on You labels are the detail that everyone’s kitchen cupboards have been missing, until now.

Spring, Lean and Clean

Posted by Stuck On You on May 19, 2010  |  1 Comment

Busy parents need simple solutions for home! It’s Spring and we want to provide you with some quick tips for spring cleaning and organizing. We want to inspire you to put some fun into your home organization. These tasks no longer have to be plain Jane, but can be creative and stylish. Here we go!

Open the windows and let the fresh air in. This will freshen up any space that’s been closed up in the colder months.

Remove clutter—While packing up your cold weather clothing, donate or consign what you didn’t wear this past season. Involve the kids in this task and teach them how to make decisions: Clothing they’ve outgrown is an obvious hand-me-down, donate or consign. Anything that is torn or ripped (unless saved for messy arts and crafts day) is a goner. Pack up clothing for next season in a clear container labeled with the gender and size. Store the container(s) in the attic or basement to free up space in the existing closets.

Reorganize

Spring is a great time to reorganize the linen closet. Try our Home Labels to indicate where towels, sheets, and the like are placed. The label pack also includes pre-printed labels to organize items that typically wind up on a kitchen counter or hall table. For example, spare change, keys and miscellaneous photo or mementos.

Our Office Labels are great for setting up a simple filing system. Add the pre-printed to some fun and funky folders to create an inspiring system that you’ll want to use again and again!

Contain— Have you ever noticed that when you are crawling under a desk, all the power cords look the same? Get behind the desk or entertainment center and give it a good dusting. While you’re at it, untangle the cords and label them with our Cord Labels. Just wrap the label around the cord of each device like a flag.

The Cord Labels offer the ultimate convenience and flexibility, and can be used to identify any plug or cable around the house, office or workshop. The black/white contrast makes it easy to read in darker environments such as under desks and behind wall units. These handy tags help you identify your plugs with ease and avoid the costly mistake of unplugging the wrong electronic unit. Prevent having to reset clocks and damaging sensitive equipment. Switch off and save energy costs on stand-by appliances. Have peace of mind whenever shifting equipment for spring cleaning; no more need to rely on technicians or experts to disconnect and connect cables…it is that easy! Each pack includes 10 blank multi-use flags.

Pantries and disorganization seem to go hand in hand. Not with the Stuck on You Kitchen Labels, which take the frustration out of finding just about anything from your kitchen cupboards. Label the containers with our Original design or our three new designs: Vintage, Natural, and Classic.

The mix of labels include the everyday items such as plain flour, pastas and rice, to the less familiar items such as bouquet garni, cayenne pepper and sesame seeds.  The pack also also includes some quirky titles such as “Hands Off” and “Poison” to keep little fingers at bay. Contain sugar, flour and other kitchen items in sealed containers to avoid pesky critters in the warmer months. The labels are also ideal for housewarming gifts.  Stocking up on them is a surefire way to always have a quick gift on hand for visiting new homes. Each set includes over 80 peel-and-stick labels. All Stuck On You labels are dishwasher and microwave proof and will stick to all smooth common kitchen surfaces, such as glass, ceramic, plastic and metal containers.

Brighten any space in your home with one of six designs from our new line of custom Home Canvases. The canvases come in small, medium and large. They are available in six different designs: Tranquil, Trees, Elegance, Simplicity, Dandelion and Retro Spot and are available in small (8”x8”), medium (12”x12”), and large (19”x19”). All canvases are personalized with ANY message. Be creative: Choose a favorite quote or affirmation, a first name or family name. Place a canvas in the kitchen, office space, bathroom or bedroom.

Reorganize, refresh and enjoy your spaces this spring!

I Have These Lovely Containers, Now What Do I Do?

Posted by Stacey Crew on January 9, 2010  |  No Comments

How much have you spent on organizing products over the last year? Do you feel like you’re organized? If you answered “No” to the second question, I can give you my insight on perhaps why after carefully choosing pretty containers, there’s still a lack of organization. It’s called “The Container Epidemic.”

I’ve written about this before in my blog and when I speak to groups, I always mention it. Manufacturers are creating beautiful products, but no one seems to explain the “how” of using these items.

Here’s a typical scenario: Natalie decides that on Saturday, she’s going to “get organized.” She’s decided to tackle the bathroom because it’s a relatively small space, not realizing that other than the kitchen, the bathroom generally contains the most items out of all the rooms in the house …other than maybe a child’s playroom.

Honestly, Natalie isn’t really keen on the project, but feel it’s necessary since her husband keeps complaining that he doesn’t have any vanity space for his three products. To get herself motivated, Natalie invites her bff to go container shopping, picking up a latte on the way. They peruse the aisles at Target and the Container Store, choosing containers that catch her eye and what she “thinks” will be functional. She spends $100, stops for lunch along the way because they were having such an enjoyable time, and arrives home mid-afternoon. At that point, she’s tired and decides to take a 2-hour nap and “contain” everything later. When she gets up from her nap, it’s about time to start dinner, then it’s family movie night and the day is over. The containers sit in a bag in the hallway.
Sunday comes and Natalie looks at the bag, walks into the bathroom and has no idea where to begin. She creates a diversion by offering to make brunch, puts the bag of containers in the hall closet, and does the laundry instead.

Okay, so what went wrong?

It’s simply the case of the cart before the horse. Before Natalie went shopping (which is definitely the most fun!), there’s work to be done. It’s called the : Group Objects, Purge, Assign, CONTAIN, Keep it up. Notice that Contain is the 4th step in this 5-step process. Here’s how it plays out…

1. Group Objects…Put all like items together. Use existing containers, whether it’s shoe boxes or kitchen pans to hold the items. This is simply the sorting process to see exactly what you possess.

2. NEXT, Purge…Toss any out-of-date prescriptions, make-up that you just don’t use,
Click here for a complete list of when to toss expired cosmetics. Be honest with yourself and keep in mind that if you haven’t used it in the last 6 months, well… Note: You don’t really know what to contain until you determine what you have, what will be tossed, and what you keep.

3. Assign is the 3rd step. This is when you decide where items will be placed. For example, all makeup in the top drawer of the vanity OR cleaning supplies under the sink on the left-hand side and extra toilet paper on the right.

NOW…
4. Contain. This is when you decide what to put items in: The Containers. Remember to leave some growing room and put no more than two categories of items in one container. This can be challenging, but it’s how you stay organized. Measure the drawers and shelves, write the measurements down, and buy the appropriate containers. And DON’T FORGET TO LABEL! Labeling is a critical part of identifying what’s been contained. Check out the Stuck on You Household and Kitchen labels.

5. Keep it up The final step in the 5-step process. It’s your system for putting thing away. Now that everything has a place, clean up is quick and easy!

Dreaming of a Thanksgiving More Organized

Tomorrow I am leaving for a 4-day business trip—the week before Thanksgiving when we’re expecting 25 guests for the big feast. I always host! It’s my husband’s and my favorite holiday and we both have large families. We also come from families full of good cooks—which makes it even easier because everyone likes to contribute dishes. All the same, I need to start organizing and planning now!

Being a busy Mom, I often find I overextend myself when it comes to hosting parties. But since I love to entertain, I have found a way to enjoy it without the stress. Here’s my secret: It all comes down to planning and cooking food that makes an impact without devouring a substantial chunk of time. And the best part about being a host is I don’t need to rush home for the babysitter!

Here’s how I keep it simple and prep for a day full of good food and fun:

  • Lists: I love lists! Everyone loves to tease me about how I list or spreadsheet everything! Well, guess what? It works! I keep a file on my computer of all my prior Thanksgiving menus and shopping lists. It is easy to update and freshen the menu with new dish ideas and it keeps the planning turn-key. Nothing is worse than wasting time in the supermarket. I like to get in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Take Inventory: Prior to shopping I check my supplies of herbs, foil, coffee, recipe ingredients, and plastic food containers for leftovers. This helps me to avoid over-buying and I can organize the pantry at the same time. The Stuck on You Kitchen Labels are also very useful this time of year—I just peel and stick to canisters, jars, plastic and just about every item I could possibly stock in my pantry and need for the Pantry Labels 1big day.
  • Get Set: Days before, we move the furniture, set up chairs, buffet table, and pick out table linens. A day or two before, I will set the table, put out serving dishes and cooking tools I plan to use. {Tip: Put a little note in each serving dish to identify what it will contain on the day.} I also like to make guests feel special with a festive harvest table, using pine-cones and branches from my garden, and candles, pumpkins, and gourds keeps the harvest spirit. I keep the settings casual with a mix of platters, from Granny’s heirlooms and the everyday. For added flare to the table, I make a decorative version of the menu and print on pretty paper stock to put at each guest’s place-setting.
  • Get the Kids Involved: Everyone has a job! My creative daughter makes personal place cards for each guest and organizes the nightly game-show—Plymouth Rock skit or Trivia Game. My chef-in-training daughter helps me in the kitchen, and my energetic son is the official greeter, who answers the constantly ringing doorbell, while I finish dinner. He also collects coats, bags and house-warming presents (love them) and organizes them in the guest bedroom. He will also gather the kids outside (weather permitting) for a game of touch football, a beach walk or other energy burners and appetite builders.
  • Casual is the Name of the Game:  The key to a relaxing day isn’t just great food—It’s how you make your guests feel. Keep things casual and comfortable. The football game is on the tv in the family room and music plays throughout the house. Nothing pleases me more than the sound of laughter, and sighs of delight at the bountiful food and full bellies. Mmmm…
  • Breathing Room: I plan at least 60 minutes for myself before guests arrive to get ready and avoid being frazzled. This is my time to chill out with a cool drink, while I put on makeup and pick out an outfit I’ll feel great in.

By being organized and pre-planning, you will find the time to sit back, relax and reflect on all that you have to be thankful for.

All of us at Stuck on You are very grateful to you, our customers for your support. We hope to keep you as a trusted member of our family for many years to come.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Amy Lipton
